Biography
His goal was to provide personal, conscientious service to clients, taking into consideration their individual needs and issues; to be fair and reasonable in billing them, and to care for each client's unique, individual needs, and to view them as individuals and not just a "case" or "file number".
Carman graduated from the University of Dayton in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. He attended St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas graduating in 1983 with his Juris Doctor Degree. He practiced in San Antonio for six (6) years, first with Valero Energy Corporation then with several firms in San Antonio. He is a member of the Texas Bar (inactive status). In 1989 Carman was licensed in New York and practiced with a firm in Syracuse before opening his firm in March 1991.
Carman has been active in our community since returning to New York - he was a member of the
Broome County Humane Society Board of Directors, the Tri-Cities Opera Board, has coached in the Vestal Little League - Challenger Division - for players with disabilities, has coached CYO soccer at St.Johns and St. Andrews Churches, coached at the Dome (GBFC), has been active in scouting and was a Cub Scout Leader and Assistant Scout Master with Pack 5 and Troop 5, and is a Board Member of the Baden Powell Council. He is an Eagle Scout and is extremely proud of the fact that both of his sons have earned Eagle. He has taken the troop camping throughout New York and Pennsylvania, Southern West Virginia and on a Sea Base excursion sailing on a 60-foot sailboat for a week through the Abaco Islands.
Professional Accomplishments:
Carman is a past Director of the Broome County Bar Association; past President of the Broome County Bar Association (2012-2013); Carman is an Attorney for Children and from 1995 until 2012 he served as Attorney for the Children Liaison to the Appellate Division Attorney for Children Advisory Committee, having been appointed by the Broome County Family Court Judges. From 2000 until 2012 he served on the Appellate Division Third Department Advisory Committee to the Attorney for Children Program.
Since 2006 he has been named to Best Lawyers in America Family Law, including Best Family Law Attorney in Binghamton, and since 2014 has been named to Super Lawyers - Upstate New York Family Law.
Areas of Practice:
While the firm maintains a general practice, the primary area of Carman's practice are matrimonial and family law, including divorces, child custody and child support, paternity and adoption. He also handles real estate closings, vehicle and traffic, criminal defense, civil litigation, Wills and estate matters.
